We will also think a little bit about abundance, and will watch this video about wealth inequality.
Before we meet next Tuesday, please read:
Week 6: Working (10/8 and 10/10)
Chapter 6: The World of American Business
There is no journal writing assignment for Tuesday.
However, if you haven't already, please work on developing a list of key terms for the oral exam as part of a study guide for you and your peers. We will use this list on Tuesday and Thursday in order to review for the oral exam. Please contribute your key terms to this Google Doc list by Tuesday at 2:30 PM. Try to contribute at least THREE new key terms--three terms that aren't already on the list when you look at it.
Don't forget: even though we don't discuss a reading or idea in class, if it's in the readings, it is still fair game for the oral exam (and as a result, a possible key term).
We watched the video in class tonight, and I was persuaded by that speech. The guy uses a lot of graph and data show us how the income unequal affects our society. The guy shows us the America has higher heath and social problems due to income inequality. The bigger income gaps lead to deterioration in social relation, health problem, and human capital. He talks about the children well-being, trusting of people, mental illness, and homicide etc. All the examples shows the unequal income harm the society. That is why I am persuaded by the speech.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't persuaded by that speech by Richerd Willkinson. All graphs didn't showed their references and scale of x-axis. And audience couldn't know how he made this data and how he analyzed it only by that speech. How did he calculate the difference of income between the poor and the rich? However, he said he used data from the United Nations and how this source could be trusted. I might believe in him after I checked his research paper. I know the speech limits time and speakers can't say all.
ReplyDeleteWithout data, his views are very interesting. The Wealth Gap can be a factor which influences on well-being. Medical technology in the US is great advanced level in the world, but life expectancy is not high. It is very strange. If medical system in the US is improved, people in the US can live healthier.
