I thought that the event was very sublime. I quite enjoyed the engaging discussion about culture, the arts and social activism. Both Danny glover and Felix justice did an excellent job of bring Martin Luther King and Langston Hughes messages out.
ReplyDeleteJazz is considered by the experts one of the most important features produced in the American Culture. Jazz is a musical style that brings you up and makes you feel happy and hopeful. The African American used it as a way to fit in society since they played at places they could not stay as guests. Jazz was able to lift up a generation's voice and to leave its mark in history.
ReplyDeleteThe BHCC Jazz Ensemble performance was terrific and a great example of what Jazz is all about. The musicians expressed happiness through their facial expressions and body language. I thought it was really interesting how they mixed Jazz with poems, reciting the poems and using Jazz songs as background. The songs and poems that were played contained information about racism and the African American life, both of which showed how African Americans fought with their lyrics.
Jazz was a remarkable way for African American to get rid of cultural misunderstandings about them that were unfortunately permeated in American Culture for a long time. Jazz musicians wrote in their lyrics about freedom and hope. However, those ideals were not privilege for the black community at that time. Still, the musicians being recognized for their music was a great incentive for them to keep fighting for their freedom rights, to feel hopeful and to fight for liberty.
Jazz is one of music styles loved all over the world today. It came from the African-American communities in the beginning of 20th century. It had an amazing influence on American culture, because Jazz was a great communication tool among people from different culture. Its unique and mixed music spread rapidly beyond races.
ReplyDeleteIn the celebration of jazz, blues and the poetry of Langston Hughes, four poems by Langston Hughes were sung. It included voices, hearts, perspective, pride and experiences of African-Americans. Not only messages but music evoked feelings about them effectively.
Jazz played an important part in diversity in America through strengthening the bond of African-Americans and causing to become widely known their opinions. Communities, which made through art including music challenged racism. For example, people in the groups led Harlem Renaissance and African-American Civil Rights Movement. For them, music was an effective measure to achieve their equality, because it moved minds directly.
Jazz is a type of music of black American origin and the style is totally different from other music like classic or pop music. It is basically not planned for how to play a song and partly spontaneous, so jazz music is played creating own interpretation with some tune in response to other musician’s performance. Jazz is one of most significant factors in today’s America. Black people made it to tell America what they struggled and get out of their severe situation during the early decades of 20 century. That is how black people could gain the social power and status against white. It would be a historical piece to shape America we know today.
ReplyDeleteI think Jazz ensemble really did a good job although I am not familier with jazz at all. I can easily understand and imagine what Langston experienced and felt about himself and people around him at that time. I also like musician’s expressions. It really made me into the poem and fun. The Jazz can be connected with diversity to try to be free and different.
The motivation for jazz musicians to seek out diversity is simple because it makes them better. It enhances their ability to express themselves, differentiate themselves, and find a unique voice. The primary way for a player to develop a distinct sound is to blend as many influences as possible and find a personal combination that no one else has. Clearly it is in musician's self-interest to seek out diversity.
